Shelagh Johnson will present on social media and advocacy.A proud Portland State University graduate, Shelagh Johnson has been working as a sexuality educator in the Portland metro area for over a decade. In her early days she attended a conference and heard a plenary session with Dan Savage that opened the creative floodgates to develop innovative, inexpensive, and ultimately more effective community education methods.
What started with buttons and zines has moved to social media, and with that comes a dynamic shift in communication and systems change. With experience in social media at small non-profits and large health systems, as well as consulting on the side, Shelagh will share some beginner’s inspiration in regards to social media, as well as trouble-shoot some difficult terrain in regards to personal and professional boundaries, youth work, and ultimately, the fear of the unknown.
From global revolutions to personal storytelling, social media can be a powerful tool for community organizing, social change, and progressive movements. Hope you can join us!
